Tour da U.P. is a bike tour that offers a unique experience to families, couples and individuals. With cyclists ranging in age and ability, we have something for everyone! This on-road event allows you to set your own pace, take in the scenery of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and discover historical sites along eachdays’ ride. For the cyclists that want more mileage we have options to extend each day’s ride. The 2009 Tour will once again be a loop route beginning on theLake Michigan shore in Gladstone and ride north through Marquette to Lake Superior then returning to Gladstone on the last day.

Sunday, August 2nd, Tour da U.P. leaves Gladstone heading north to Marquette. This 58 mile day will follow a moderately flat route passing through small towns along the route. After a lunch stop in Gwinn we will continue our trek to Marquette where we will spend 3 nights. This will allow for additional sightseeing and organized rides leaving from the campground each day.

Monday August 3rd, The day’s tour will lead us through historic Iron Ore Mining sites in Negaunee and Ishpeming. This 50 mile ride will offer many interesting stops at museums, points of interest and road side parks. Also a preview of Marquette County’s Heritiage Trail. A BBQ cookout at the Teaching-Family Homes campus pavilion will complete this busy day.

Tuesday, August 4th, Explore the Marquette area today with several choices. A local guide will lead a hike up a favorite high point know as Hogsback. Then return to the beach for a quick dip in Lake Superior. Other activities include boat tours of the Marquette coastline, kayaking, swimming and shopping in our downtown district. A Poker run will also be planned as a fun way to get out and stop at local businesses. Lunch and dinner are on you own.

Wednesday, August 5th, After packing our camping gear the route will follow the shoreline bike trail out of Marquette then east along M-28. Lots of nice beaches and scenic pullouts on Lake Superior along the ride today. After a lunch stop in Au Train the tour rides south along Au Train Lake to Eben Junction for a night at the local high school. The total distance for the day is 48 miles.

Thursday, August 6th, The final day of the tour will be about 39 miles as it winds it way south from Eben Junction to Gladstone. Hot showers, awards and a lunch will await you upon return to your vehicle. You return to your vehicle.
