Teaching Family Homes is pleased to welcome Shannon Tucker as the new Family Support Worker for Ontonagon County

Ontonagon - Teaching Family Homes of Upper Michigan is pleased to welcome Shannon Tucker as the new Family Support Worker for Ontonagon County. A native to the UP and to Ontonagon, Shannon will be working with troubled families in her hometown, teaching them new skills, as well as building on the skills they already possess. The Family Support Program is a home-based program that allows Shannon to meet with the family in their home for a minimum of two hours a week to provide the family with support it the areas of parenting, vocational, and independent living skills. Families are referred to Shannon by the Department of Human Services and Shannon helps the family set goals as proposed by the DHS and the family. Shannon works with the family for up to six months to accomplish these goals.

Shannon is a graduate of Gogebic Community College and Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. As a mother of one son, Shannon states “I have a passion for helping people and feel this program is going to do a lot of good in our community. I have a three year old son and face many of the same parenting challenges that other families face. My job is to help families face their problems and work through the issues.” Indeed, that is what Teaching Family Homes is all about, providing education and tools to families for a better future.

The mission of Teaching-Family Homes is to provide ethical, cost-effective care to children, families, and individuals in need of services. Our goal as an agency is to facilitate self-sufficiency, skill development, and interpersonal relationships through building upon and reinforcing individual strengths and attributes.
