Teaching Family Homes is pleased to welcome Nicole Wachter as the new Family Support Worker for Alger County

Munising - Teaching Family Homes of Upper Michigan is pleased to welcome Nicole Wachter as the new Family Support Worker for Alger County. A native to the UP and to Munising, Nicole will be working with troubled families in her hometown, teaching them new skills, as well as building on the skills they already possess. The Family Support Program is an intense home-based program that allows Nicole to meet with the family in their home for a minimum of two hours a week to provide the family with support it the areas of parenting, vocational, and independent living skills. Families are referred to Nicole by the Department of Human Services and Nicole helps the family set goals as proposed by the DHS and the family. Nicole works with the family for up to six months to accomplish these goals.

A recent graduate of NMU and mother of two, Nicole states “my experience comes from living. During college, my family’s financial situation required us to seek out state assistance. There are many programs out there to help families like mine; people sometimes just don’t know about them. I’m here to help families resource these programs and to provide hope to make life better in the future.” Indeed, that is what Teaching Family Homes is all about, providing hope to families for a better future.

The mission of Teaching-Family Homes is to provide ethical, cost-effective care to children, families, and individuals in need of services. Our goal as an agency is to facilitate self-sufficiency, skill development, and interpersonal relationships through building upon and reinforcing individual strengths and attributes. Teaching Family Homes is an affiliate of Father Flanigan’s Boys Town and utilizes the research-based Teaching Family Model in many program components. Group homes, foster care and counseling services are nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
