We know how hard the job of parenting is, no matter what the ages of the children are in families. One of the many ways Teaching Family Homes, in partnership with Menominee County Department of Human Services, supports parents in their efforts to parent is by offering Common Sense Parenting classes. Over the past 4 years 100% of participants stated that they would recommend this class to another parent. 100% said they felt more confident as parents and that they learned new skills.
The Common Sense Parenting Classes cover such topics as giving clear messages, giving appropriate consequences, using effective praise, teaching self-control, developing social skills, and helping children succeed. Meeting on a weekly basis, for seven weeks, participants are able to learn these skills and then apply them to their own families. Much is learned, not only from the teacher, but also from the other parents attending.
Teaching Family Homes of Upper Michigan is excited to announce Common Sense Parenting will be held at the Head Start building at N1329 US Hwy 41 in Menominee. Transportation and childcare are provided if needed. Participants must be referred by a Department of Human Services (DHS) worker.
