2008 TEEN TUESDAYS

Marquette, MI – Beginning June 10th, Teen Tuesdays will once again be offered from 7:00-9:00pm at the following locations: June 24th- Salvation Army Recreation Center at Sawyer; July 8th- Lower Harbor Park in Marquette; July 22nd- Nordeen Park in Gwinn; August 5th- Miner’s Park in Negaunee; and August 19th- Salvation Army Recreation Center at Sawyer.

Planned activities correspond with different themes for each event that will include carnival, disco, art, sports and water themes.  Teens are able to engage in a variety of activities such as, skateboarding demonstrations, tie dying, pie toss, volleyball, inflatable games, water balloons, arts & crafts, jewelry making, henna paintings, soccer and frisbee.  Prizes, free snacks and music will also be provided at each event.  All ages welcome.

Teen Tuesdays are a substance-free event and are funded primarily through community donations and mini grants from Marquette County Substance Abuse and Prevention Coalition, Marquette Community Foundation and the United Way.

Teaching Family Homes of Upper Michigan provides ethical, cost-effective care to children and families in need.  Programs include Residential group homes, Treatment foster care, Families First, Common Sense Parenting, Teen Parenting, Juvenile Justice Diversion and Reintegration Alternatives, and educational services.  In 2007, Teaching Family Homes collaborated with Project WEAVE to coordinate Teen Tuesday events.

Project WEAVE helps to expand and improve substance abuse treatment services through mentoring, job coaching and enhanced public service that engages local residents and leaders and builds on the strengths of youth and families.
