“Adopt a Child”

The holidays are times of traditions. Traditions of warmth, hectic times, running from Holiday Program to Birthday Program, preparing surprises for others, the smell of holiday foods, the anticipation of what presents will be opened Christmas Day. Each family, building through the years, memory upon memory of joyful traditions to be repeated by the generations to come.
Imagine living a life where you are somehow exempt
from those traditions. Somehow the holidays are meant for someone else. You
never lay awake on Christmas Eve in happy and excited anticipation of what
joy will be yours in the morning. You never wake to the smell of a new doll.
You never stand along side your family preparing a holiday dinner. You don’t
know where you will celebrate the holidays. You do not know if you will see
your family or if you do, whether you will be celebrating or mourning.
Teaching Family Homes is building a “Home of Hope” for children and families of Upper Michigan. We give children hope by showing that people care. We give children hope by showing children that they can have a better life. We give children hope by teaching them the skills they need to get along with others. We give children hope by teaching them the perseverance they need to overcome some horrific experiences. We give children hope by helping their parents learn the skills needed so that they can have the parenting that they deserve. We give children hope by finding families for them, if they cannot return home. And we give children hope by giving children a chance at a future.
“Adopt a Child” provides a way to touch an individual child. As an example, there is a 13-year-old child who is described as “an outgoing young man who enjoys a good joke. He likes to read thrillers and spend time throwing a ball around with the other guys.” Gift ideas include model car kits, word search books, X-box games (rated T or less), Okemon or Yu-gi-oh T-shirts, soccer ball, or a basketball.
If you would like to participate in either of these wonderful programs, please contact Kristina Balzarini at 906-249-5437.. Please send the forms to Teaching Family Homes,1000 Silver Creek Rd, Marquette, MI 40855.
